与披头士、滚石齐名的“谁人”乐 队（The Who），于1964年在伦敦成立；它的4位成员是：主唱Roger Daltery、贝司手John Entwistle、鼓手Keith Moon），以及乐队核心、吉它演奏家和词曲作家Peter Townshend。“谁人”的舞台表演非常狂热和戏剧化，被形容为“史上最佳的现场演出乐团”。
1965年，乐队凭藉一曲《I can't Explain》风靡英伦，之后的几张专辑《My generation》，《The Who's Sell Out》以及《Magic Bus》都取得了成功。他们创作并主演的摇滚歌剧《Tommy》开创了流行艺术更为广泛的领域。
